January in the Rearview

Oh January… you have been a head-scratcher for sure. Let’s dive in, shall we?

What I enjoyed this month: Sherlock coming back on my television. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Because I have cut back on how much of the glowing screen I actually watch, it was a real treat to watch Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock on my screenย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

What I am absolutely over: Any bloody news story having to do with the current person who is occupying the White House. I can’t. I seriously can’t. This blog is not a political blog by any stretch of the imagination and I am not about to start down that slippery slope. However, I am deeply disturbed by what is going on in our country and it breaks my heart. Whatever side of the aisle you are on, we are all human beings with a genuine interest in the lives of our countrymen and this divide…it’s more than I can take.

Apparently this sign I saw at a store, tells us what we should be doing:

On the healthy living front: Mama has been exercising! And meditating! And drinking green juices! Okay, I’ll stop with exclamation pointsย  ๐Ÿ™‚ But I truly am happy that January was good for me health-wise. I feel better and I have to say meditating has helped me TREMENDOUSLY. Seriously. I am now at the point where if it is the evening and I have not meditated yet that day, I get cranky. Ask my husband, he’ll tell you. Love you honey!

On the decluttering and minimalism front: I sorted out all of my books and went through them and asked myself honest questions about whether the book was actually important to me and would I really and truly read said book again.

Well here is the pile of books that I gave to my husband to sell on eBay:

Can I just tell you something about this picture? I gave these books to my husband sometime in the first week of this month and I couldn’t tell you for the life of me, what the titles of these books are. Really. Now don’t get me wrong, I loooooove to read. Reading = breathing. #bookwormsunite But having books on my shelves that I know that I am not going to read doesn’t make much sense either. Now someone new will love and cherish these books and give them a proper homeย  ๐Ÿ™‚

How was your January? Are you keeping calm and eating cupcakes?ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I was really happy to have Sherlock back on my TV too, although I must admit the last episode didn’t really wow me. But still, it was good to see the boys back in action! With you all the way on how heartbreaking our country is right now. I don’t think my body can contain all the emotions I feel!

Yay for getting back into your exercise and eat right mode. January was a bit rough for me. My main form of exercise is swimming and my pool is outdoor. It’s nicely heated but we had so much rain (not complaining!) and it was so bitterly cold on the days that it didn’t rain. So it was real hit and miss for me. You talked about meditation in one of your earlier posts and I need to download that app or whatever it was you’re using.

Books! I used to only buy books but now I rarely do. Part of it is budget constraints but also I’ve really expanded the books I read and find that some books, while great, I would never read again. And it’s really not a great use of money or space. So now I’m a library girl again and when I find a book that I love and will reread (because I do reread my favorite books over and over) then I will buy them.

    • Yeah, I hear ya about Sherlock. I didn’t particularly like the first episode in this new series. It felt very erratic and all over the place and then that ending, I mean…

The app I use for my meditation is “Calm”. I think you’ll really like it. Let me know if you have any questions regarding it; I am happy to help!

So true about books! There are books that I read that I totally thought were good, but know I will never read again and you are right; totally not a great use of money or space ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I’m trying to work on managing my media intake so I can keep calm and focused, otherwise it’s going to be a rocky, long stressful four years. I’m really trying to focus on my health this month too. Lots of possible stressful situations so the better I can take care of myself, the better my mind and body will hopefully be able to handle anything that comes my way. I’ve never watched Sherlock!

  3. I’m focusing on prayer and green juices too!!! SO yummy. I took a break from eating well for the Superbowl – what a mistake. SO glad to be back on my juicing and eating whole foods.

  4. I have not done well on the eating front AT ALL since the New Year. I know in my head what I have to do, but I’m not following through. Ugh! I was just talking with someone yesterday who is losing sleep because of the person who is in the White House. And she is obsessed. Her husband has to tell her to stop talking about him all of the time. Anyway, it sounds like you’ve had a great start to 2017, Mackenzie : )
